About United Learning
United Learning is a large, fast-evolving educational group dedicated to delivering a transformative education to children and young people across England through its network of schools.
Our central team—comprising departments in HR, finance, technology, strategy and performance, estates, and marketing—works alongside dedicated school improvement specialists. Joining United Learning will allow you to provide indispensable support to schools, directly shaping positive outcomes for our pupils.
United Learning is fully committed to safeguarding and welfare—every applicant will undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Shortlisted candidates must also pass an online safety verification.
We prioritise merit and are open to discussions about flexible working options.
The Role
United Learning is enhancing its coherent, ambitious, and aspirational curriculum to empower teachers nationwide. Though adoption of the United Curriculum is voluntary, it has been designed to ensure consistency and quality in lessons, saving teachers critical planning time—enabling them to personalise resources for individual students.
As a Secondary History Curriculum Writer, you’ll work in our central team for a one-year maternity cover, refining our KS3 curriculum resources, with a focus on developing the Year 9 curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the curriculum and History teams—including primary and secondary specialists—to develop the KS3 curriculum sequence and schemes of work.
- Create practical lesson resources, including:
- Lesson slides
- Printable worksheets
- Teacher subject support materials
- Pedagogically researched content (aligned with Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction).
- Deliverables must meet half-term deadlines.
- Partner with our artworkers and intellectual property specialists to ensure all texts, images, and sources in curriculum resources meet licencing and permissions requirements.
- As needed:
- Produce pupil resources (e.g., knowledge organisers, explanatory videos).
- Develop teacher resources (e.g., subject knowledge videos, unit guidance).
- Work with the wider secondary curriculum team to foster cross-subject alignment, notably between History, English, and Geography.
- Align with the History adviser and Secondary Curriculum Lead to guarantee resources meet high teaching standards and reflect United Learning’s overall approach to curriculum design.
- Implement feedback from teachers, advisers, and the curriculum leadership team.
- Provide additional operational support in curriculum development as directed by senior leadership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
