Quantum Scholars are seeking caring, reliable and experienced Secondary Tutors to provide 1:1 tuition for secondary-aged pupils in and around Frome, Somerset.

Our ākonga (learners) may be:

  • Educated other than in a school setting
  • Awaiting a suitable placement
  • In need of additional personalised support

Tuition is typically delivered through 1:1 home visits, community-based sessions, or online, tailored to each young person’s needs.

We are looking for motivated tutors who embrace a calm, adaptable and young person-centred approach. Successful candidates will be able to:

  • Build positive relationships with learners
  • Personally adapt learning methods to meet individual needs
  • Design engaging sessions that support self-confidence, progress and re-engagement with formal education

Applications are welcome from tutors with experience in secondary education, particularly in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities subjects

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 tuition for secondary-aged pupils in the Frome area
  • Plan and deliver tailored learning activities aligned with each pupil’s goals
  • Strengthen core academic skills, subject knowledge and confidence
  • Support learners' deeper re-engagement with school, at their own pace
  • Incorporate creative and interest-driven techniques to sustain motivation
  • Adapt sessions immediately to meet each young person’s abilities, emotional needs and readiness
  • Assist learners with SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, gaps in education or EBSA status
  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers and external professionals (e.g. social workers, support teams)
  • Maintain clear session records (content, progress, attendance and engagement)

Preferred Attributes & Experience

  • Substantial experience in secondary school tutoring
  • Strong command of one or more core secondary school subjects (e.g. English, Maths, Science, Humanities)
  • Relationship-building skills with teenagers and young adults
  • Ability to differentiate personalised learning plans flexibly
  • Encouraging, supportive and patient demeanour
  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills
  • Dedication to safeguarding and securing positive educational outcomes
  • The right to work legally in the UK
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is highly desirable, particularly for referrals requiring a teacher.
