New Trustee Opportunity

We’re seeking a new trustee for the Board with organizational and committee experience to help grow and develop this small charity to support many more people with disabilities throughout the UK to become more independent through training their own Assistance Dog.

What difference will you make?

As our new Secretary, a key trustee role, bringing effective communication and organizational skills, you would help the Board to lead this wonderful small charity as we develop, grow and build on the great support shown during our successful emergency appeal.

The trustees play a key role in Dog A.I.D.'s work to help people with physical disabilities to improve their quality of life by helping them train their own pet dogs to provide assistance with day-to-day tasks and in some circumstances providing life-saving interventions.

What are we looking for?

  • Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to Dog A.I.D., its strategic objectives and cause
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as Secretary and Trustee
  • Organisational ability and an eye for detail
  • Experience of committee work and procedures
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strategic vision
  • Good, independent judgement and a willingness to speak their mind
  • An ability to think creatively
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship (training and information will be provided)
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of the team
  • Understanding of the needs of people with physical disabilities
  • A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
