As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Section Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you'll be doing
The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Accountabilities
- Carry out complex setting out;
- Provision of ‘primary’ setting out control and recognizes the optimum location for installation;
- Able to carry out calibration checks on equipment;
- Produces Activity Control Plans;
- Actively uses the Specification as a reference document;
- Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records;
- Identifies, raises and actions Non Conformance Reports;
- Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments;
- Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs;
- Understands and uses the Observation tool for both areas of improvement and areas of excellence;
- Assists in the production of a weekly programme and measures progress against KPI’s;
- Communicates weekly programme and targets to the workforce;
- Creates and maintains daily diary for upload to BIM 360;
- Collates Weekly Measure information and monitors wastage against budget allowances/KPI’s;
- Carries out a labour and plant reconciliation;
- Identifies items of additional work and raises the necessary notifications;
- Works to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- HND in civil engineering at minimum, degree is preferred or proven experience as a civil engineer;
- CSCS card;
- SMSTS is preferred, SSSTS at minimum;
- CITB Temporary Works Supervisor is preferable;
- Prepare and review RAMS, ITP’s and other technical documentation;
- Extensive, proven experience as being a section or site engineer on large, complex packages of work, specifically within major civil engineering and highways infrastructure projects (e.g., major road construction, earthworks, heavy civils);
- Strong knowledge of engineering computer systems e.g. AUTO Cad, BIM;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite;
- Good knowledge of programming and planning civil works;
- Good working knowledge of site engineering tools e.g. total stations etc.;
- Excellent communication skills for effective interface with site teams, subcontractors, clients, and designers;
- Experience managing sections of works and multiple site engineers.
