Job Title

Section Manager – Substation Construction

Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Section Manager to oversee complex civils and infrastructure packages for a major substation construction project in Bury St Edmunds. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in civils within the power or utilities sector. You’ll play a critical part in ensuring safe and efficient project delivery in a live, high-voltage environment.

Salary

£51,000 – £60,000 plus £4,700 car allowance

Client Overview

Our client operates within the power and utilities sector, delivering major infrastructure projects to support essential energy networks across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage complex civils and infrastructure work packages
  • Ensure project delivery aligns with health and safety requirements in a live HV environment
  • Oversee on-site teams, subcontractors, and temporary works in line with TWC duties
  • Implement and monitor CDM regulations and construction risk controls
  • Manage permit-to-work systems to maintain operational safety
  • Provide technical input to planning, sequencing, and execution of works
  • Report progress and resolve on-site issues to maintain programme and budget compliance

Must-have Requirements

  • Previous experience delivering civils works on substation, utilities, or major infrastructure projects
  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) certification
  • In-depth understanding of CDM regulations, permit-to-work systems, and construction risk management
  • SMSTS (or equivalent) and proven experience in safety-critical or live operational environments
  • Earthworks Level 3 or equivalent exposure to heavy civils scope
