Section Manager - Plumbing, Gas and Renewable Energy
Uxbridge
£47,939 to £52,165 + Industry Sector Payment of up to £5,000 on top of salary for a strong candidate.

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking passionate and skilled professionals to join our team and help shape the next generation of tradespeople.
Reporting to the Head of School for Engineering – Technology and Innovation, in this newly created post you would provide leadership for a team of Lecturers, manage study programmes and develop provision across the Section. You would teach across a range of programmes according to your specialism. You would also continue to increase and develop our links with employers, which are integral to successful student work placements and course enrichment.
We are seeking someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Level 3 qualification in Plumbing or Heating (NVQ or C&G Advanced Craft)
- Full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (DET or equivalent)
- Successful teaching experience in Plumbing, preferably in Further Education
- Curriculum co-ordination and development experience
- Experience of improving teaching, learning and assessment
- Experience of leading/supervising a team
DUTIES
Marketing and Recruitment of Students
- To organise recruitment activities and ensure the appropriate guidance and initial assessment of students.
- To liaise with internal and external teams/organisations/parties, as directed by the Head of School, to ensure the effective and efficient recruitment and guidance of students.
- To ensure staff attend promotional events and activities and contribute to the positive promotion of the School and section.
Support for Students
- To ensure the implementation of the College’s Tutorial Policy, including the effective use of Attendance Co-ordinators and named tutors.
- To ensure the implementation of the College’s Basic Skills strategy.
- To ensure the sharing, organisation and updating of resources are accessible to staff and students.
- To implement the College Careers and Guidance Policies.
- To liaise with the Student and Learning Support team to ensure that students receive maximum benefit from these services.

Design and Delivery of Programmes
- To teach on a range of courses across the portfolio of qualifications for 16 hours per week (teaching hours are calculated on an annualised basis).
- To co-ordinate and advise on the production of course materials, including schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules.
- To ensure the development and implementation of new schemes, including submissions to awarding bodies.
- To ensure that College policies for the delivery of curriculum, including Functional Skills, are implemented fully.
- To maximise the use of e-learning within the curriculum.
- To ensure the courses maximise the students’ employability skills through the integration of employer involvement within the curriculum design and to build on the schools/ sections employability targets in conjunction with the Head of School
- To ensure that students attend and achieve on all areas of their study programmes including maths and English and work experience.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Plumbing or Heating (NVQ or C&G Advanced Craft)
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or equivalent
- Full (minimum level 5) teaching qualification recognised by the Further Education sector (e.g. DET, PGCE)
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Recent successful teaching experience in Plumbing
- Some management or team leadership experience
- Up-to-date knowledge of the relevant subject area
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with employers
- Experience of managing, co-ordinating and developing the curriculum
- Ability to improve and maintain high standards of teaching, learning and assessment
- Understanding of quality assurance and ability to implement quality improvement systems/processes
- Understanding of curriculum and funding issues
