This role focuses on the Section Manager lead position for the Power & Civil (P&C) team within our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) global practice. You will direct strategy implementation, cultivate high-performing teams, and embody the values of client satisfaction, commitment, integrity, and outstanding service.
As the Section Manager, your leadership will steer the team toward profitability, efficiency, and scalability, while fostering Burns & McDonnell’s core mission.
Responsibilities
Strategic and Financial Leadership
- Provide managerial direction and leadership to the P&C team ensuring cost-effective, high-performance execution aligned with engagement targets.
- Drive profitable section growth, ensuring staffing levels, workload distribution, and utilization support billable goals without compromising project success.
- Prepare and present workload and monthly financial reports to global/regional leadership and project managers.
- Budget management—oversight of department expenditure, ensuring financial health and sustainability.

People and Process Management
- Lead recruitment, development, training, and retention strategies for the team.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide mentorship, and align staff with departmental and company goals.
- Ensure compliance with equal employment opportunity initiatives and site safety policies.
- Foster a culture of quality assurance (QA/QC), reinforcing guidelines and audits.
Business and Project Optimization
- Collaborate with business development, project managers, and proposal production staff to secure new opportunities for the team.
- Provide expert-level technical guidance and design support to ensure project success.
- Navigate and drive changes in practice, office, and regional initiatives, ensuring seamless execution.
Stakeholder and Communication
- Engage with clients, internal leadership, and staff, articulating the mission, goals, and policies clearly.
- Champion a culture of safety, client satisfaction, and operational excellence.
Miscellaneous
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of professional experience in design and/or project management—preferably within transmission, distribution, or power engineering.
- Strong preference for candidates with prior leadership/management experience.
