SECURE CARE OFFICER – Working in Youth Justice
Oakhill Secure Children’s Training Centre for Young People Milton Keynes, MK5 6AJ
Salary & Terms
- £39,595.92 per annum (after a 6-month probationary period)
- Full-time (~40 hours per week)
- Shift pattern:
- 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM or 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Weekday & weekend working required

This Secure Care Officer role is essential to maintaining the safe, effective operation of Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC). We’re looking for individuals with:

Key Responsibilities
You will provide caring, structured supervision for children (ages 12–18) who are remanded or sentenced under the Youth Justice System. Key duties include:
- Support & care: Motivate children to develop anti-offending behaviours, build life skills and prepare for reintegration into society.
- Professional guidance: Build mutual trust to ensure children respond positively to guidance and respectful boundaries.
- Behaviour management: Hold consistent expectations, model positive behaviours, and professionally de-escalate challenging situations.
- Safeguarding focus: Prioritise child welfare, ensuring all care aligns with G4S safeguarding policies.
- Positive resettlement: Work towards helping young people make more constructive life choices.

Training & Preparation
Before starting in role:
- An 8-week, full-time induction & training programme (covering essential skills for secure care work).
- Note: Part-time applicants will revert to actual hours post-training, subject to weekend working.
Requirements & Eligibility
Essential
- Ability to work in the UK with 5+ years of UK residence (post-Brexit rules).
- Willing to undergo safer recruitment practices, including:
- Enhanced DBS security vetting
- Full work & education history disclosure (last 10 years).
