Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Onsite (MOD Defence Partner) – Corsham


About the Role

We are seeking a Security Subject Matter Expert for a 6-month contract position with a critical Defence partner in Corsham, working within a high-assurance environment. This role will require close collaboration with Ministry of Defence (MOD) stakeholders, delivering end-to-end security assurance across systems, applications, and infrastructure in line with rigorous Defence standards.

📍 Location: Corsham (onsite) 🔐 Security Clearance Required: DV+ (additional clearances required; UK nationals only, including spouse) 💷 Rate: £500–600 per day (outside IR35) 📅 Duration: 6 months

Responsibilities

As the on-site Security SME, you will act as the primary security assurance authority, engaging with MOD teams to:

  • Lead security assurance and formal sign-off for critical Defence systems and infrastructure.
  • Review security architectures and technical designs to ensure compliance with high-assurance requirements.
  • Oversee SIEM, monitoring, and forensic readiness to detect, investigate, and mitigate security incidents.
  • Lead and assess penetration testing and vulnerability assessments across systems and networks.
  • Approve secure code reviews and software release changes, ensuring adherence to defence-grade security standards.
  • Evaluate suppliers and third-party products for security risks, providing knowledgeable and evidenced-based recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain clear, auditable security documentation for traceability and compliance.
  • Provision evidence-based security advice and guidance to MOD teams, fostering a culture of security across the organisation.

About You

This role requires substantial technical experience, particularly in:

  • Software security, penetration testing, or vulnerability management.
  • Experience verifying secure systems design within high-assurance environments (e.g., Defence, national security).
  • Clearance at Defence Standard 02 (DV+) level, with additional sensitivities where applicable.
