Security Duty Manager

Job Introduction

Carlisle Support Services is now seeking a dedicated Duty Security Manager to join the team at Coventry University.

They will be required to work rotating day and night shifts over a weekly period, working an average of 42.5 hours per week - 4 Days, 4 Off, 4 Nights

Pay rate: £17.20

The Duty Security Manager duties will encompass the management of the Front Line Protection provision of Coventry University and be the operational point of contact and service delivery while on duty.

A Protection Shift Manager will be required 24 hours per day, seven days a week (including cover on bank and statutory holidays), overseeing the management and deployment of Protection staff. He/she will be on site in the control room at all times to direct operations and ensure the services required under the contract are adhered to.

The Shift Manager would need to be formally qualified as a ‘Train-the-Trainer’ and as a minimum, would need to hold a PTLLS or equivalent accredited qualification. In addition, the Shift Manager would need to be formally qualified and accredited at Level 3 as an instructor through the NFPS (or suitably agreed alternative) for Control and Restraint and Breakaway techniques (Physical Intervention).

The Duties Will Include (but Not Be Limited To)

  • Maintaining documentation/records required to enable an efficient, professional Protection service.
  • To manage the day-to-day operational requirements of the University Control Room function.
  • Maintaining radio equipment and communications between Protection personnel.
  • Managing and directing on behalf of the University emergency incidents (theft, assault, fire, accident, business continuity etc.) and complying with the University’s call-out procedure for emergencies.
  • To oversee the electronic patrol system.
  • To operate an effective Incident Reporting system
  • Responding to the University’s emergency phone line and taking appropriate action as required.
  • Monitoring and recording CCTV activity and maintaining appropriate activity logs/records.
  • To manage the appropriate control measures appertaining to the use of Bodyworn cameras.
  • Monitoring and managing the correct use of door access systems/cards.
  • Monitoring personal attack alarms and directing/supporting Protection personnel as required.
  • Completing duty and activity logs as well as associated documentation.
  • Maintaining University I.T. logging and reporting systems as required.
  • Maintaining communication and a close working understanding with local police and emergency services.
  • Offering advice, support and guidance to University staff and students on matters on Protection.
  • To act as a key out-of-hours welfare provision in support of students’ needs.
  • Provision of direct first line Management of the contract.
  • To ensure the Health and Safety inspection and audit requirements of the University are met/adhered to.
  • To conduct regular audits of the service performance.
  • Delivery of crime prevention and fire awareness initiatives.
  • Direct supervision of all investigatory CCTV follow-up works, whereby, after an incident, the appropriate CCTV evidence is obtained to support either prosecution or disciplinary matters.
  • Direct supervision of all the associated administrative processes within the control room.
  • Direct supervision and maintenance of all fault listings for the equipment within the control room.
  • To deliver direct one-to-one training to all staff.
  • To champion the University SafeZone app, including the effective management and analysis of data
  • To manage and adhere to the Coventry University Procedural documents directly provided by the Office of the University Head of Protection Services.
  • To aim to exceed expectations.
  • Support the Universities response capability which includes the protection of people, property, and assets.
  • To work as an operational team member carrying out preventative work and audits covering all areas of the site.
  • To respond to medical incidents, First Aid Qualifications provided.
  • Support the Security & Emergency Operations security response capability which includes the protection of people, property, and assets.
  • Regular patrolling of site(s), our staff cover a number of CU buildings across the City Centre.
  • To be a point of contact and to lend support to the University Students, staff and stakeholders.
  • Must have the ability to make decisions and manage situations as they arise.

Is this you?

  • SIA Door Supervision licence.
  • SIA CCTV Licence an advantage.
  • Full UK Drivers licence with 2 years driving experience with less than 6 points.
  • First aid at work is an advantage (3 day) but training for the right candidate
  • 5 years checkable work and address history
  • Reliable, punctual, flexible, and smart in appearance
  • Friendly, approachable, and always professional
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to do a great job
  • Ideally some experience within a Security environment or a customer facing role
  • Able to interact with clients and customers in a positive manner
  • Some experience working within a Security environment and working as part of a team
  • Effective people skills, able to interact with clients and customers in a positive manner
