Security Engineer

Security Engineering Lead – Cloud Security Solutions (AWS, Terraform, CI/CD)

Are you passionate about building and scaling cloud security tooling using AWS, Terraform, and modern CI/CD practices?

Can you partner with engineering teams to design, deploy, and operate security solutions that protect large-scale cloud platforms?


About the Team

You’ll be joining the Security Engineering team within Elsevier’s Information Security & Data Protection department. Our team is responsible for designing, implementing, configuring, and maintaining security tools used across Elsevier Technology. You will collaborate with colleagues from:

  • Incident Response
  • Threat Engineering
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)
  • Business critical units

About the Role

We are seeking candidates with a passion for cybersecurity who have hands-on experience with: ✅ Security tools and cloud technologies ✅ DevOps methodologies ✅ Practical applications in: Network Security, Security Operations, Vulnerability Management, Risk Management, and Incident Response

Key Responsibilities

Technical Implementation & Leadership

  • Design, implement, and maintain security tooling within multi-national cloud infrastructures.
  • Build and utilise Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to manage AWS cloud infrastructure securely.
  • Develop and operationalise CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for reliable, automated deployments.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on architecture, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Security Engineering & Deployment

  • Partner with software development teams to ensure effective adoption of security tools.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting (NewRelic, CloudWatch) to improve system visibility and resilience.
  • Ensure disaster recovery planning, capacity analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Troubleshoot complex IT security issues efficiently; communicate findings clearly.

Operations & Delivery

  • Deliver production-ready systems on time and within budget.
  • Maintain effective runbooks and operational best practices.

Requirements

We recognise that no single candidate will meet all criteria—if you are enthusiastic about this role and have relevant experience, we encourage you to apply.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in:
    • IT security tools (SIEM, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), EDR, Firewalls, IDS/IPS, code analysers).
    • Cloud security services in AWS and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Aliyun.
    • CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, related tools).
  • Experience using AI tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise).
  • Scripting and development (Python, Shell, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud environments, virtualisation, containerisation, or IaC.
  • Familiarity with Agile & DevOps frameworks.

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Strong interest in emerging security standards and innovation in security engineering.
