Security Officer
Location: RAF Brize Norton, Carterton, Oxfordshire, OX18 3LX Salary: £28,753.54 plus excellent benefits Schedule:
- 2 days (12-hour shifts, 07:00–19:00)
- 2 nights (12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00)
- 4 days stand down (includes 1 rostered duty cover shift)
About the Role
Ready to make a meaningful difference? As a Security Officer at RAF Brize Norton, you’ll safeguard the RAF’s largest operational base by providing essential access control, security, and traffic services. Your role ensures a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for colleagues, visitors, and contractors, contributing to national security efforts with every shift.
Daily responsibilities include:
- Welcoming visitors professionally
- Supporting critical security operations
- Ensuring smooth base movement
- Protecting facilities while fostering a positive experience for all.
Responsibilities
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Provide a professional welcome to visitors and colleagues.
- Control vehicle and pedestrian access, verifying passes and identification accurately.
- Conduct security searches and assist in emergency responses as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and operational records.
- Perform vehicle escort and traffic management duties across the base.
- Operate airfield pass checks.

Requirements
Essential
- Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence (training + UK Security Vetting (UKSV) clearance is required, or the ability to obtain it swiftly).
- Full UK manual driving licence (no more than six penalty points).
- Colour perception ability for an Airfield Driving Permit.
- Strong communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
- Dependability to meet the 12-hour shift pattern (day + night rotations).
Clearance Process
The role requires UK Security Vetting Clearance (SC):
- Detailed background checks covering employment history, criminal records, and finance.
- Further application requirements will be advised, including residency checks.
Following promotion postal/initial application, you must complete an Employees’ Occupational Health Questionnaire to assess support needs.
