Retail Security Officer – M&S

Join M&S as a Security Officer in Southampton and contribute to creating safe, welcoming, and thriving communities.


Location & Salary

  • M&S West Quay 23 Harbour Parade, Southampton, SO15 1QB
  • Salary: £13.96 per hour
  • Hours: Guaranteed 40+ per week

About the Role

This role is for confident, customer-focused individuals who thrive under pressure, lead professionally, and take pride in balancing great service with security. You’ll be a visible, approachable presence ensuring:

Responsibilities

Customer Excellence

  • Create a friendly open-door culture in-store
  • Support customers and colleagues with proactive, professional service

Security & Risk Management

  • Prevent loss, handle incidents, and identify risks
  • Ensure safe working practices
  • Protect store assets and reputation

Technology & Teamwork

  • Operate digital systems: mobile reporting, body-worn cameras
  • Collaborate closely with staff to uphold store standards

Requirements

  • Preferred/Desirable:
    • Prior security experience
    • SIA license (company-funded training for eligible candidates)
  • Essential:
    • Strong verbal communication
    • Professional, level headed demeanour
    • Customer service mindset and situational awareness
    • Clear security awareness (new recruits receive training)
    • This position requires:
      • Five years checkable UK work history
      • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods (i.e. and qualify as security)
