Security Officer – Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM)

Location: Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Pembroke Place, Liverpool, L3 5QA

Pay Rate: £13.45 per hour

Hours: Approximately 24 hours per week

Working Pattern: Monday to Sunday, including weekends and bank holidays

Shift Times: Days and nights required – shifts between 07:00/08:00 and 19:00/22:00

Requirements: Valid SIA Licence (Security Guarding or Door Supervision) and Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List Check

About The Role

Kingdom Group is recruiting for a professional, reliable, and customer-focused Security Officer to join our team at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).

This is a varied and rewarding role within a prestigious educational and research environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming atmosphere across the campus while supporting a wide range of operational, security, logistics, and reception functions.

The role requires flexibility to work both day and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities

Security Duties

  • Provide a professional and highly visible security presence across the campus.
  • Conduct internal and external patrols of buildings and grounds.
  • Monitor access and egress of staff, students, visitors, and contractors.
  • Carry out regular security, health and safety, and site compliance checks.
  • Respond to incidents, emergencies, alarms, and security concerns.
  • Complete accurate incident reports and records.
  • Support emergency procedures and building evacuations.
  • Liaise with emergency services when required.
  • Monitor and report maintenance issues, hazards, and security risks.
  • Escort contractors, visitors, and authorised personnel where necessary.
  • Undertake internal and external cash transfer escorts between buildings.

Logistics & Campus Support Duties

  • Deliver mail, parcels, and packages across the campus.
  • Manage receipt and dispatch of stores and deliveries.
  • Support office moves and relocations throughout campus buildings.
  • Carry out mailroom duties and postal distribution.
  • Assist with housekeeping, recycling, storage, and general campus support tasks.
  • Conduct space audits as required.
  • Check and record temperatures, humidity levels, equipment readings, and monitoring systems.

Clinical Sample Transfer

  • Transfer clinical samples safely and securely between:
    • Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM)
    • Well Travelled Clinics (WTC)
    • LLSA Building
    • Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust (LUHFT)

Reception & Customer Service Duties

  • Provide reception cover during breaks, holiday periods, absences, and busy periods.
  • Welcome visitors, students, staff, and contractors professionally.
  • Handle enquiries and provide assistance where required.
  • Maintain excellent customer service standards at all times.
  • Answer and direct enquiries appropriately.
  • Support the smooth day-to-day operation of campus facilities.

  • Act as a Fire Warden.
  • Operate Evac Chairs where trained and required.
  • Provide First Aid support where trained.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations and incident management.
  • Complete all required emergency documentation and reports.
  • Support compliance with health, safety, and security procedures across the campus.

What We're Looking For

  • Valid SIA Licence (Security Guarding or Door Supervision).
  • Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List Check (or willingness to undergo screening).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional, reliable, and approachable attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to working days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Good record-keeping and administrative skills.
  • Previous experience within security, facilities, concierge, reception, or customer-facing roles is desirable.

Additional Information

  • A full 5-year checkable employment history will be required.
  • Successful applicants must hold a valid SIA Licence.
  • An Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List Check is required.
  • Approximately 24 hours per week.
  • Day and night shifts available, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Based at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool, L3 5QA.
