Security Officer
Security Officer – St. Marys Regional Hospital
About the Role
The Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers in an office or ambulatory clinic setting. This role is responsible for monitoring activity, enforcing policies, providing assistance, and responding to emergencies to protect facility occupants and property.
Key Responsibilities
Core Security Duties
- Monitor and enforce security protocols to safeguard patients, employees, and facility assets
- Assist with visitor and visitor management by verifying credentials and providing direction
- Conduct safety inspections of walking surfaces, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and facility compliance
Technical Operations
- Operates and monitors surveillance cameras, access control systems, alarm systems, and security software
- Ensures proper functioning and maintenance of all security equipment
- Maintains key control systems, external facility access, and patient transportation security
Conflict De-escalation & Crisis Response
- Utilises verbal and non-verbal de-escalation strategies to resolve conflicts peacefully
- Handles violent or aggressive patients, using physical restraints when necessary while prioritising safety
- Responds to bomb threats and suspicious packages according to protocols
- Engages in security drills, including infant abduction and active shooter simulations

In-Depth Investigations & Compliance
- Collaborates with HR and law enforcement on incident investigations
- Maintains confidentiality (e.g., HIPAA compliance) when disclosing minimum necessary information
- Conducts respectful and legal searches (e.g., patients, property, for controlled substances)
- Ensures parking regulation compliance to enhance facility safety and patient accessibility
Required Skills
- Law enforcement, parking, public safety, lockout/tagout, and fire drills experience
- Situational awareness and decision-making under pressure
- Physical ability to lift, bend, stand, and operate monitoring stations
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for diverse stakeholder interactions
- Key control, vehicle operation (if applicable), and medical/patient sensitivity awareness
Minimum Qualifications
- Current driver’s license (if vehicle access is required)
- Current or willingness to obtain Basic Life Certification (BLS) within 90 days
- At least 21 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of prior experience in law enforcement, corrections, military police, or security roles
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity to read monitors, signs, and patient needs
- Manual dexterity for operating equipment and restraints
- Ability to lift equipment and work in varied positions (standing, kneeling, bending)
- Driving capacity (for roles requiring vehicle operation)

Location & Compensation
- St. Marys Regional Hospital, Grand Junction, Colorado
- Scheduled hours: 40/week
- Hourly rate range: $20.45 – $27.04 (dependent on experience)
