Security Operations Engineer
Security Operations Engineer – United Kingdom
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. They are seeking a highly motivated Security Operations Engineer based in the United Kingdom.
About the Role
This critical frontline security position operates within a globally distributed, high-scale developer platform environment. The role focuses on:
- Triage of security alerts, including threat monitoring and vulnerability advisories.
- Handling sensitive customer security requests, such as account recovery, authentication issues, and access disputes.
- Supporting global incident response on-call rotations, following established procedures.
- Improving operational workflows, refining runbooks, escalation paths, and automation.
Ideal for candidates who thrive in ambiguous, high-pressure environments and enjoy translating complex security signals into clear, actionable decisions.
Accountabilities
- First-responder for security alerts, triaging detection signals and escalating as required.
- Customer security operations, including:
- Account recovery
- Authentication troubleshooting
- Ownership verification
- Access dispute resolution
- Participate in incident response, following structured playbooks and escalation procedures.
- Maintain and enhance operational documentation—runbooks, decision trees, and support macros—for efficiency.
- Triage internal IT and identity requests, including SSO, access provisioning, and device-related issues.
- Ensure accurate, clear communication with customers, engineers, and internal teams during incidents.
- Identify recurring issues and contribute to automation and workflow optimization.

Requirements
Essential:
- Experience in technical support, IT helpdesk, SOC analysis, trust & safety, or fraud operations.
- Basic understanding of security fundamentals, including:
- Authentication (MFA, OTP)
- Access control
- Identity verification
- Session management
- Familiarity with IT systems such as:
- SSO (e.g., Okta, Azure AD)
- Identity Providers (IDP)
- Workspace tools (e.g., Google Workspace)
- Comfort using command-line tools and interpreting logs, scripts, or structured data.
- Ability to distill complex security incidents into concise, actionable insights.
- Strong written and verbal communication in high-pressure scenarios.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement, documentation, and automation.
- Experience working asynchronously across time zones with structured async collaboration.
Nice to Have:
- Background in cloud or developer ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Postgres).
- Familiarity with operational tools (Front, Linear, Notion, Vanta, Kandji, Jamf).
- Exposure to security activities, including:
- CTFs (Capture The Flag)
- Bug bounty programs
- Open-source security contributions
- Basic scripting/automation in security or support workflows.
