Job Title: Security Operations Engineer
Location: Reading/Hybrid
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum DOE
Job Type: Full Time / Permanent

As a Security Operations Engineer, you will be a key member of our Security Operations function, responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, monitoring, investigation, and continuous improvement of customer security services. Working in an MSP environment, you will focus on threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and security control optimisation across multiple customer estates.
You will work closely with Network Operations, Service Desk, Projects, and third‑party vendors to ensure customer environments remain secure, resilient, and fully aligned with SLA and regulatory requirements.

What We’re Looking For
Core / Strongly Preferred
Proven hands-on experience in a Security Operations, SOC, MDR or MSP environment, with a strong background in investigating and responding to security incidents Strong practical knowledge of modern security technologies including EDR/XDR, Microsoft 365 security, cloud security platforms and associated investigation workflows Solid understanding of common attack techniques, vulnerability management and incident investigation methodologies, with the ability to assess risk and drive effective remediation Experience working collaboratively across technical teams and with third-party security partners to investigate, escalate and resolve security incidents A proactive, customer-focused mindset with strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable security guidance and improvements Experience supporting firewall and network security controls (Fortinet preferred

Certifications (one or more preferred)
Microsoft SC-200 (Security Operations Analyst) or equivalent hands-on SecOps experience CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or equivalent cybersecurity certification Fortinet Certified Professional Email security / threat protection certifications or experience (e.g. Mimecast, Microsoft Defender for Office 365) Other industry security certifications or demonstrable practical experience in Security Operations Actively working towards further cybersecurity certifications and professional development
Desirable (Not Mandatory)
Experience with SOAR tools and security automation Exposure to vulnerability scanning platforms and risk management processes Experience in a multi‑customer MSP environment
Technical Expertise
Security monitoring, alert triage, and incident response Firewall security services, VPNs, and secure remote access Vulnerability remediation and risk reduction Structured incident, problem, and change management Security hardening and configuration best practice
Professional Skills
Hands‑on, operational engineer with strong investigative skills Calm, methodical, and detail‑oriented under pressure Clear communicator with customers, vendors, and internal teams Proactive mindset with a passion for improving security services Eager to learn and develop through real‑world experience and certifications
