Security Services Group (SSG) - Operations Service Officer
Security Services Group (SSG) is the MOD’s Technical Authority for electronic and physical security, providing expert advice, design, installation, and maintenance of security systems across the UK Government. SSG is part of GUARDIAN and is positioned within Standing Joint Command to support UK homeland security.

- AWE Aldermaston – Reading Road, Aldermaston, Reading, Berkshire RG7 4PR
About the Role
Working 37 hours per week, the Administrative Assistant to Security Operations will provide essential support to either the AWE Operations Team (near Reading) or the South West (SW) Operations Team based at Shrivenham.
Your primary responsibility will be to assist with the installation and maintenance of security systems across Defence sites, ensuring efficient and cost-effective service delivery to SSG clients.
Key Responsibilities
You will act as the point of contact for:
- Customer call-outs (including AWE/SW Facilities Management Companies and Other Government Departments)
- Logging and allocating calls via SSG’s CASH maintenance system
- Notifying and coordinating SZ4 Technicians for services
- Raising invoices and quotes per desk notes and SLAs

Additionally, you will:
- Process requisitions for parts, training, access hire, PPE/clothing
- Input AWE/SW staff timesheets
- Archive and manage project documentation (filing, archiving)
- Drive, or use a company vehicle when traveling between offices, including AWE and cross-site visits
Requirements
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong administrative, organisational, and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to multitask and prioritise efficiently
- Excellent communication for managing customer queries and collaborating with technicians
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential due to frequent travel)
Desirable Qualifications & Knowledge
- 2 GCSEs (Grade C/4+) OR Business Administration NVQ Level 1—or equivalent clerical experience
- Familiarity with Office 365 and MOD systems (Clarity, ATT, CASH, CP&F)
Security Clearance
Once appointed, you will need to obtain Developed Vetted (DV) clearance—only open to UK nationals.

The role assesses:

- Experience & Problem-Solving (evaluated via personal statement and discussion)
No relocation expenses are offered. Those requiring visa sponsorship will not be considered—only candidates who are UK nationals. Failure to declare outside interests before employment may lead to withdrawal of an offer.
Interviews are mandatory attendance, and further conduct checks include security clearance and criminal record disclosure.
