About The Business Unit
The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation, and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

Overview of the Role
We are seeking an Information Communication Technology (ICT) Principal Engineer to design Security Systems and ICT Infrastructure with our ‘Digital Infrastructure’ team. The role is within our Buildings division to work with our multidisciplinary Building Services Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) team.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Deliver Security Systems and ICT infrastructure design for major projects from concept through to detailed design.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with architects and civil engineers.
  • Working with clients to understand requirements, develop, define, and document appropriate solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Support to senior managers running the commercial and contractual side of projects.
  • Working autonomously within a team carrying out building services projects.
  • Preparation of design documents including sketches, drawings, reports, schedules, and specifications.
  • Woking at various project phases including feasibility, concept & detail design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, handover, and in-use.
  • Reviewing and coordinating designs with other design disciplines both internally and externally.
  • Reviewing and commenting on third-party designs and checking against briefs and standards.
  • Inspection and witness testing of under construction or as-built systems and reporting findings.
  • Keeping updated on technical standards, technical, and product developments, identifying opportunities for training, development, and growth.
  • Support the learning and development of early career professionals in the team.

Candidate Specifications
Essential

  • Proven experience delivering projects within the built environment.
  • Extensive Security System and ICT infrastructure design experience across concept and detailed design stages.
  • Capable to lead design and specification of the following systems:
    • CCTV systems.
    • Access Control Systems.
    • Building and Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems.
    • Integrated Security Management Systems.
  • Experience of securing Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and similar high security sites.
  • Experience of leading structured design processes such as Home Office ‘Operational Requirements’.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Delivery of coordinated 3D design models.
  • Leader of Security & ICT elements of one large project or a portfolio of smaller projects.
  • Have a track record in building services Security Systems & ICT engineering design and specification using relevant industry software (NBS Create and REVIT, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations.

Desirable

  • Experience in sectors such as MoD/defence, healthcare, infrastructure, aviation, rail, residential, or data centres.
  • Experience in designing and specifying physical security measures for sites and buildings.
  • Degree-qualified Engineer (or equivalent) with a strong background in Electrical & ICT Building Services.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IET, CIBSE, or equivalent professional body.
  • Awareness of Cyber Security design principles.
  • Experience of designing:
    • Passive and active ICT network infrastructures.
    • Audio Visual systems.
    • Fire detection, public address, voice alarm, and EVC systems.
  • Experience in work-winning and bid support.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools and emerging technologies.
  • Up to date knowledge of current building regulations, legislation, and standards applicable in building and infrastructure design.
  • Experience of training graduates/Early Career Professionals (ECP).
  • Expecting to drive profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting and anticipating potential problems, and communicating in line with client expectations.
