Permanent Social Care Support Worker – Band 5

Role Overview

Branch: Downpatrick (SEHSCT) Location: Down Salary: £31,049 – £37,796 (Band 5) Contract Type: Permanent Position Start: 01/07/26 Closing Date: 15 July 2026 @ 5:30 PM Interview Dates: To be confirmed

Notes: This role supports individuals with their daily living needs within a community-based setting. Essential support includes personal care, medication management, health and safety compliance, and fostering independence and well-being.


About the Role

As a Social Care Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the dignity, safety, and quality of life for individuals within supported living environments.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Actively support individuals with personal care, daily living tasks, and household duties in a professional and compassionate manner
  • Monitor and report health and safety concerns, including medication adherence and emergency procedures
  • Contribute to a person-centred care approach, including assisting individuals with goal-setting and life planning
  • Support flexible working arrangements where possible, in line with organisational policies

Key Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

  • Desired: NVQ/SVQ Level 2/3 in Health, Social Care, or Childcare (alternatively, relevant experience accepted)
  • QCF Care Certificate or equivalent preferably achieved prior to start date

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong communication skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals, families, and colleagues
  • Experience (or willingness) in rapid response and emergency care situations
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team in a person-centred and focused way
  • Sensitivity to diverse needs and the demonstrated capability to foster trust and respect in all interactions

Essential Attributes:

  • Compassion and empathy as integral parts of delivering high-quality support
  • Commitment to uphold values-based care principles
  • Basic IT skills suitable for completing digital documentation and records
