SEMH Inclusion TA3 (Teaching Assistant) – Northwick Manor Primary School
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEMH inclusion Teaching Assistant to join our school. Our inclusion teaching assistants play a vital role in supporting our class teachers to help children fulfil their potential and develop essential independence skills.
The role primarily involves assisting pupils with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, either one-to-one or in very small groups, under the guidance of the Assistant Headteacher (AHT) for Inclusion and teaching staff.
About the Role
You will work closely with pupils to promote their learning and personal development, ensuring they access all educational opportunities, including those with special educational needs (SEN).
Core Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs – predominantly on a 1:1 basis or within small groups, following a personalised teaching programme.
- ** deliver effective 1:1 or very small group interventions** for pupils with complex emotional, social, and mental health needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, other TAs, and external professionals to provide an inclusive, inclusive and high-quality education.
- Support the school’s leadership team (SLT) in implementing the school’s mission, ethos, and policies.
- Uphold the school’s values and maintain professional conduct at all times.

Key Accountabilities
Pupil Support & Intervention
- Lead bespoke interventions (speech & language, behaviour support, literacy, numeracy, SELPS) for children with complex SEMH needs, ensuring progress is tracked via baseline and end-of-unit assessments.
- Work on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in consultation with class teachers and the AHT (Inclusion).
- Apply a trauma-informed approach to nurture support when directly requested.
Day-to-Day Care & Engagement
- Provide pastoral support, e.g., during break, lunch, arrival/departure times, and out-of-classroom activities.
- Take responsibility for personal care, hygiene and safety of pupils in your assigned groups.
- Advocate for positive behaviour, manage incidents in line with school policy, and encourage self-regulation.
Learning Environment & Resources
- Support ICT learning, ensuring pupils develop independence in using technology.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining classroom resources, displays, and equipment.
- Liaise with parents/carers to build trusting relationships.

Additional Support Roles
- Travel with pupils on school trips and out-of-classroom activities (year 6 residentials, etc.) when assigned.
- Provide administrative support (clerical, organisational tasks) to teaching staff.
- Participate in school enrichment activities and team meetings.

- Attend training and CPD opportunities to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
- Adhere to school equal opportunities policies, health & safety, and confidentiality guidelines.
- Perform reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher.
