About the Role
Are you a highly qualified and experienced professional capable of delivering targeted, high-level support to drive academic attainment, particularly at GCSE level? As a SEMH Mentor in partnership with Stockton Virtual School, you will:
- Utilise your expertise in regulating/coping strategies to mentor students
- Manage complex student caseloads and provide specialist knowledge on adaptations
- Lead statutory reviews and ensure bespoke intervention programmes deliver measurable academic progress
- Collaborate with the LA Virtual School and stakeholders to improve outcomes for Looked After Children (LAC)

This role goes beyond administrative tasks—you’ll act as a key adult, offering a consistent, secure presence to help repair relational trauma and foster secure attachment, enabling learning and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer unconditional positive regard and a reliable presence (e.g., greeting students, celebrating achievements, providing coping spaces)
- Monitor and assess student progress and attendance via an action research project
- Analyse data to provide strategic insights for academy governors, leaders, and Virtual School
- Work closely with the Local Authority’s Virtual School and wider education ecosystem
- Promote high expectations while addressing the invisible burdens LAC students carry
