SEMH Mentor

SEMH Mentor – Temporary Position (1 Academic Year)

About the Academy

Location: Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth, near Stockton-on-Tees

Start Date: 01/09/2026 Salary: £25,744 (great for long-term support) Hours: Temporary position, 32.5 hours per week (term time, plus 5 additional days)

Are you a highly qualified professional ready to deliver targeted academic support (especially at GCSE level)? Do you thrive on managing complex student caseloads and designing bespoke intervention programmes?

Join Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth, in partnership with Stockton Virtual School, and help transform the lives of vulnerable students. As a SEMH Mentor, you’ll focus on:

  • Proven systems to maximize SEN and SEND attainment, particularly for Looked After Children (LAC).
  • Strategic support—managing progress, attendance, and statutory reviews, while ensuring all interventions make a measurable difference.
  • Collaborative leadership—working with the LA Virtual School, Ofsted, and external partners to improve outcomes.

The Depth of the Role

Working with children in care is far more than a job—it’s a relationship. As their key adult, you’ll provide:

✔ A predictable, supportive anchor—some children thrive on routine, even when their worlds feel unstable. ✔ Emotional regulation strategies, tailored exactly to their needs—helping them navigate challenge and develop confidence in themselves. ✔ One-click advocacy—balancing high expectations with deep empathy, while fighting against the invisible barriers they carry into school. ✔ Measurement of success through action research, developing data-backed insights to influence school development.

Why would you do it?

Because you understand that academic gains are maiores when trauma is met with a patient response. Because for many children in care, their school is one of their few safe spaces.

Key Responsibilities

✅ SEMH Mentoring & Intervention

  • Deliver 1:1 developmental planning, using evidence-based interventions to improve behaviour, resilience, and academic engagement.
  • Monitor and demonstrate improvements in emotional resilience, organisational skills, and progress in relation to their EHCP (Education, Health & Care Plans).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
