Estate Services – Maintenance Operations
Full-time | Permanent | Streatham Campus
Salary & Band
£28,029 – £30,339 (dependant on knowledge, skills and experience) – Grade C
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Semi-Skilled Building Maintenance Operative based at University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus. This position offers the successful candidate the chance to join a high-quality, customer-focused team delivering maintenance services across academic, residential, research, and grounds properties.
This position is available immediately on a permanent basis.
Key Report Lines
- Reporting to: Maintenance Operations Structural Team Leader
Core Responsibilities
As a key member of the operational team, you will collaborate with colleagues across Electrical, Mechanical & Structural Services. Your responsibilities will include:

Buildings & Ground Maintenance
- Routine gutter and gully cleansing
- Footpath refurbishment and maintenance
- First-level scaffolding tower installation/supply and dismantling
- Diverse installation and repair tasks as required by team demand.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Ensuring the campus estate remains safe, functional, and compliant with health & safety legislation.
- Identification and prioritisation of tasks to meet project deadlines with a starter/finisher mentality.

- Training & Development In-house, task-based training will be provided, with support to enhance ongoing professional development.
Requirements & Desired Qualities
Essential Requirements
✅ Valid UK driving licence (with the ability to drive emergency response vans or light utility vehicles) ✅ Preparedness to work alone or in a team, showing tactfulness with colleagues and staff alike ✅ Methodical approach against safety norms and workloads ✅ A commitment to ongoing health & safety training
Desirable
✔ Prior experience or formal qualifications in structural maintenance frameworks ✔ Hands-on problem-solving and resilience to prioritise demands efficiently
Support & Training
Training will be provided to develop skills throughout the role. If the candidate has relevant experience (e.g., in construction/maintenance), this may reduce induction periods.
