Functional Safety Manager
This rare opportunity to build and lead an entire functional safety capability from the ground up—not a replacement or mainstream hire. You’ll be the first dedicated functional safety specialist within the organisation, establishing processes, influencing product strategy, and creating the foundations for future growth.
Location & Flexibility:
- Core locations: Oldham (UK), Bratislava, or Germany
- Eligibility for exceptions: Other European locations for exceptional candidates
- UK-based staff: Typically 5 days on-site, flexible based on requirements

Key Responsibilities
As the Functional Safety Manager, you’ll own governance, strategy, and execution, acting as the central expertise for automotive semiconductor activities:
- Establish and develop the Functional Safety Management System (FSMS)
- Lead ISO 26262 compliance activities across automotive semiconductor products
- Drive:
- HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment)
- FMEDA (Failure Mode, Effect and Diagnostics Analysis)
- FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis)
- Safety concepts, planning, and safety architecture
- Collaborate closely with design and verification teams to implement safety mechanisms
- Serve as the primary customer-facing representative for functional safety matters
- Support:
- Audits
- Assessments
- Certification bodies
- Build safety cases, safety manuals, and supporting documentation
- Coach, mentor, and develop functional safety capability within engineering teams
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience implementing and leading ISO 26262 functional safety in semiconductor environments
- Semiconductor design & verification background
- Experience establishing or significantly developing functional safety processes and frameworks
- Deep expertise in:
- FMEDA
- FMEA
- Safety architecture & diagnostic mechanisms
- Ability to influence stakeholders and build support for functional safety initiatives
- Strong customer-facing communication skills
- Experience in international engineering organisations
