SEN Academic Tutor – Immediate Opportunities Available
Location: Berkshire and surrounding areas Hours: Part-time, flexible Pay: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience) Start Date: Immediate referrals available and from September
Are you an experienced education professional with a passion for supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
We are collaborating closely with a Pupil Referral Unit in Wokingham, providing specialist academic tuition across Berkshire and surrounding areas. Due to a surge in referrals, we are urgently looking for compassionate, dedicated, and experienced SEN Academic Tutors to strengthen our team.
This role offers a highly rewarding opportunity to support children and young people needing alternative education provisions. You will help them re-engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve positive educational outcomes through tailored individualised support.

About the Role
As an SEN Academic Tutor, you will provide face-to-face, personalised academic support to pupils aged Primary to Secondary, specialising in:

Tuition Locations
- In the pupil’s home
- At a community setting (e.g., libraries or learning hubs)
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, individualised lessons in core subjects (English, Maths, or Science, where relevant)
- Adapting teaching strategies based on each pupil’s needs and abilities
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and their families
- Supporting pupils to improve confidence, resilience, motivation, and independence
- Implementing strategies to overcome learning barriers and help pupils re-engage with education
- Monitoring progress and providing clear feedback/reports after each session
Who You’ll Be Supporting
You will work with pupils who face a range of challenges, including:
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
- Anxiety and other mental health factors
- Behavioural challenges
- Communication and interaction difficulties
- Moderate and complex learning difficulties
Many pupils transitioning to your care may have disengaged from mainstream education, requiring a patient, flexible, personalised approach to reinvigorate their passion for learning.

What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates bring experience in:
- Teaching, mentoring or tutoring children/young people with SEND and/or SEMH
- Strong subject knowledge in English, Maths &/or Science
- Understanding of neurodiversity and additional learning needs
- Ability to build rapport with reluctant learners
- Strong communicational and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and adaptability
Experience Of Useful Backgrounds Includes:
- Qualified teachers
- SEN specialists, SEN tutors & teaching assistants
- Learning mentors, youth workers
- Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs)
Flexibility
Availability to support across multiple days per week is advantageous due to demand across Berkshire and surrounding regions.
