Your Daily Duties
Responsibilities
As a SEN Teaching Assistant in Stratford, your day will be varied, rewarding, and never the same twice. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs throughout the school day
- Working closely with class teachers to implement individual learning plans and EHCP targets
- Supporting pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and emotional wellbeing
- Assisting with personal care and physical support needs where required
- Using specialist strategies and tools to help pupils access learning and achieve their potential
- Maintaining accurate records of pupil progress, behaviour, and support provided
- Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents to ensure a consistent and holistic approach
- Participating in training and professional development sessions
- Supporting pupils during transitions, breaks, lunch, and educational visits
- Contributing positively to the wider school community and staff team

What We Are Looking For
Experience And Qualifications
- Direct experience supporting individuals with complex needs
- Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant or support worker is highly desirable and will be considered as transferable experience
- Familiarity with EHCPs, behaviour management strategies, and communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS, or core boards is an advantage
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent when working with pupils with complex needs
- Strong communication skills - with children, parents, and colleagues
- Confident working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to adapt your approach quickly and creatively to meet individual pupil needs
- Good record-keeping and organisational skills

Safeguarding
This role involves direct, daily contact with children and constitutes regulated activity relevant to children. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working in close proximity with vulnerable pupils throughout the entire school day, and the safeguarding responsibilities of this post are significant. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the school's safeguarding policy and statutory guidance at all times. An enhanced DBS check and full reference verification will be completed prior to any appointment being confirmed.
