Contract: Temporary (Long-term)
Full Time: Monday to Friday
Pay: £105 - £115 per day
Start Date: September 2026
Expected End Date: End of the academic year
A specialist SEN school in Newton Heath is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Assistant to join their supportive team from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity until the end of the academic year, supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs within a specialist education setting.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils with additional needs, working closely with class teachers and the wider SEN team to provide personalised academic, social, emotional, and pastoral support. The school provides a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every pupil is encouraged to develop confidence, independence, and achieve their individual potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of SEN needs
- Supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), complex needs, communication difficulties, and learning disabilities
- Assisting pupils to access learning activities and engage positively within the classroom
- Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
- Assisting with the implementation of EHCPs, individual support plans, and behaviour strategies
- Using communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS, AAC, or other specialist strategies where required
- Supporting pupils' independence, confidence, and engagement throughout the school day
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and support staff

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEN
- Be confident working with pupils with a range of additional needs
- Be calm, patient, resilient, and proactive, with a nurturing approach
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Be confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
- Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability from September
- Makaton, PECS, AAC, or other communication training (desirable)
- Team Teach, MAPA, or similar de-escalation training (desirable)
- Hold a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child and Adult Workforce) registered on the DBS Update Service (essential)

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS (Child and Adult Workforce) registered on the DBS Update Service, satisfactory references, and full compliance with KCSIE (2025) guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
