SEN Teacher – New Autism Specialist School


Position Overview

We believe in giving you more time to do the things you love outside of work.

  • Location: Strawberry Lane School, Durham, DH6 5BE
  • Salary: Up to £42,500 per annum (based on experience, not pro rata)
  • Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday)
  • Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
  • Start Date: September 2026

About the Role

Join New Options Autism Schools in Durham, where you’ll shape education from the ground up as a new school launches in 2026.

As an SEN Teacher, you’ll:

  • Deliver personalised teaching with a creative, tailored approach, maximising pupils’ achievement and wellbeing.
  • Teach across a range of subjects, specialising in complex Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASC) support.
  • Foster an inclusive, nurturing classroom environment, ensuring every pupil engages and thrives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, contribute to school innovation, and participate in planning, assessment, and professional development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prioritising safeguarding, ensuring pupils’ welfare is at the heart of every decision.
  • Aligning with professional practices, statutory guidelines, and school policies.
  • Supporting day-to-day operational needs (e.g., organisation, documentation).
  • Undertaking flexibly determined additional tasks (directed by the Headteacher).

Qualifications & Experience

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • Degree-level education
  • Proven experience working with complex ASC
  • Passion for supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs

About Strawberry Lane School

Strawberry Lane School (opening 2026) is the newest addition to New Options Autism Schools, a specialist educational provider in Bowburn, Durham.
