SEN Teaching Assistant
1:1 Autism TA – Additional Training – Newham
Q: Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with an in-depth understanding of SEMH?
About the Role
Reeson Education is collaborating with a large Newham Primary School to recruit a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a child with Complex SEMH and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This is a deceptively challenging role requiring a confident, proactive individual with proven experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly ASD/SemH.
The school offers in-house training for all support staff and recognises that this role could provide valuable experience for those aspiring to:
- Future Counsellors
- Educational/Clinical Psychologists
- Child Psychotherapists
- Primary Teachers

Role Overview
- Position Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (ASAP Start, until July 2025)

- Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 tailored support for a KS1 child with ASD
- Deliver a range of intervention strategies aligned with SEND needs
- Participation in trial days will be scheduled immediately following half-term

Person Specification
- Degree in a relevant subject from a reputable university (strongly preferred)
- Essential experience in SEN support, particularly:
- Suitable for teachers and therapists intending to transition into SEND
- Comprehensive understanding of SEN, regardless of academic qualification
- Soft Skills Required:
- Resilient – Thriving in a structured but unpredictable work environment
- Committed – Dedicated to fostering success in SEND education
- Passionate – Able to connect with and support vulnerable children
- Playful – Experience in applying playful therapeutically supported learning
- Innovative – Willing to develop creative, unique support methodologies
- Professional Focus: Highly focused on the child’s needs at all times
