Full Job Description

Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Overton School, Ludlow, SY8 4AD

Salary: £11,819.00 per annum (not pro rata)

Hours: 20 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.30am – 12.30pm

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs. Our pupils are autistic and may have associated communication, sensory, and complex needs. We’re looking for caring, patient, and resilient individuals who want to help children thrive in a supportive, structured environment.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work closely with pupils to support their learning, social, and emotional development
  • Prepare learning materials and assist with engaging classroom activities
  • Provide individualised support to help pupils achieve their personal goals
  • Support pupils’ physical and emotional wellbeing in a safe, nurturing setting
  • Collaborate with teachers and colleagues to deliver creative, tailored learning experiences
  • Contribute to a dynamic and stimulating school environment where no two days are the same

With the right training and guidance, you’ll develop valuable skills, grow professionally, and make a lasting difference within Overton School and the wider Outcomes First Group.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from candidates who:

  • Hold GCSEs grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics, and a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Have experience working in a SEND setting and are motivated to support vulnerable pupils to achieve their potential
  • Are adaptable, patient, and caring, able to work across a range of learning environments
  • Work effectively as part of a collaborative team, with strong communication skills
  • Are committed to building trusting relationships and promoting an inclusive, supportive learning environment
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence

Overton School provides specialist education in a nurturing, therapeutic setting for autistic young people and those with learning disabilities and complex needs. Set in the Shropshire countryside near Ludlow, the school offers personalised learning within a sensitively adapted Victorian building and outdoor-rich environment. We support pupils to re-engage with education, build confidence, and develop independence. Working closely with families, Overton empowers every learner to celebrate their individuality and achieve positive outcomes.

For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties.
