SEN Teaching Assistant - Penkridge
Teaching Assistant – One to One Support (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)
Post: Teaching Assistant (Focused on Individual Student Support)
Reporting to: Head Teacher
Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive support for the teaching, learning, and general well-being of individual student(s) while working under the guidance of the head teacher, SENCO, and class teachers.
Location: Based near Penkridge (ST18), Stafford

- Moderate learning disabilities
- Complex emotional and behavioural difficulties

About the Role
Welfare Commitment: The safeguarding of children and young people is paramount at Longridge School. This role falls under an enhanced DBS check, requiring all applicants to disclose any criminal records.
Duties
Teaching & Learning Support
- Assist in the educational and social development of assigned student(s) under the direction of Head Teacher, SENCO, and class teachers.
- Collaborate in implementing student-specific Education Programmes, while monitoring progress and providing tailored support.
- Offer one-to-one in-classroom and out-of-classroom support to ensure full student participation, promoting inclusion and independence.
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary professionals as needed.
- Help maintain student records, including assessments and progress logs.
- Build strong therapeutic relationships with student(s) who may have conditions like:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Moderate to severe learning disabilities
- Speech and language challenges
- Encourage social interaction, engagement, and positive behaviour through personalised, nurturing strategies.
- Guide and mentor students towards self-confidence, independence, and behaviour expectations, applying trained therapeutic interventions when necessary.
- Supervise student(s) outside lesson times—including during trips, excursions, and out-of-school activities.
- Support students in the home setting (when required).
- Provide relevant feedback on progress and achievement under teacher guidance.

Administrative Duties
- Assemble and curate displays of student work to celebrate learning.
- Assist class teachers with photocopying, resource organisation, and additional administrative tasks to support teaching efficiency.
- Invigilate public examinations as required.
- Maintain and prepare equipment and classroom resources to facilitate lesson plans.
- Undertake other duties essential to the smooth operation of the school.

- Adhere to New Reflexions and School policies, including safeguarding protocols.
- Reflect and embody the ethos and values of Longridge School.
- Foster a culture of vigilance regarding safeguarding and report any concerns immediately to the designated safeguarding lead.
- Set an example in personal conduct (punctuality, attendance, appearance).
- Attend team and staff meetings as required.
- Comply with school-wide health and safety protocols, ensuring proactive student, colleague, and stakeholder wellbeing.
- Pursue professional development through school-mandated training programs, workshops, and supported CPD activities.
- Support all students holistically, maximising opportunities for their academic, emotional, and personal development.
