Learning Mentor & SEN Support Assistant

Location: Penzance, Cornwall

Contract: Full-Time | Permanent Opportunity Available

Support Young People to Thrive

A specialist educational provision in Penzance is seeking a dedicated and proactive Learning Mentor & SEN Support Assistant to join their growing team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their individual potential.

You will work closely with pupils who require additional support due to a range of special educational needs, providing encouragement, structure, and guidance throughout their educational journey.

The Opportunity

Responsibilities

In this role, you will become a key part of a supportive team focused on delivering positive outcomes for students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing personalised support to pupils both in and out of the classroom
  • Helping students develop confidence, independence, and emotional resilience
  • Supporting young people with Autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, and other learning differences
  • Encouraging engagement with learning through creative and practical approaches
  • Assisting with the implementation of individual support plans
  • Promoting positive behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
  • Supporting pupils during enrichment activities, educational visits, and community-based learning
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive, and student-centred learning environment

What We're Looking For

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Have experience working within education, care, youth work, support work, or a similar setting
  • Be patient, adaptable, and enthusiastic
  • Have a genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Be confident building positive and professional relationships
  • Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle
  • Have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one
