SEND Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant Part-time, term-time only | Ratton School, Eastbourne
Job Overview
We are seeking an SEND Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant to support the learning, progress, and well-being of our most vulnerable and high-potential students. Working closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and wider support team, you will deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions across literacy, numeracy, speech and language, social skills, and emotional wellbeing (e.g., CBT and Worry Busters).
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with SENCO and colleagues to design, deliver, and review targeted interventions, ensuring they meet individual student needs and school/Ofsted priorities.
- Lead specialised sessions such as:
- Literacy and numeracy catch-up programmes
- Speech and language development support
- Social skills and emotional wellbeing (using evidence-based strategies)
- CBT-based programmes (e.g., Worry Busters) for anxiety management.
- Foster inclusive, confident, and independent learning, acknowledging each child’s unique background and challenges.
- Support professionals by assessing student needs (formally and informally), tracking progress, and adapting strategies.
- Provide in-class assistance (for literacy/numeracy), plus exam/hometime supervision, parent liaison, and behaviour management.
- Contribute to school projects such as safeguarding, transitions, and TAFEE (Targeted Additional Funding for Education and Equality).

Person Specification
Must Have: ✔ Practical experience supporting students with SEND, ideally in a mainstream inclusivity or intervention setting. ✔ Strong emotional intelligence—ability to build trust with vulnerable learners, families, and colleagues. ✔ Commitment to safeguarding: experienced in compliance with DBS checks and knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education guidelines. ✔ Skills in CBT and counselling techniques for children (e.g., mindfulness, worry management).
Desirable: ✔ Familiarity with SEND frameworks (e.g., EHCP, SEN Support). ✔ Prior involvement in inclusive assessment (e.g., identifying barriers to learning). ✔ Training in child psychology or related specialisations.

Terms & Conditions
Salary
£18,377.61 gross/year (~£1,531.47/month), pro rata to 31.25 hrs/week at SS4-5 points 9-13 (£25.185–£26.403 fte). Pending school pay award.

Contract
- Term-time only (3 terms per year)
- Holiday pay included
- Work schedule: 31.25 hrs/week, Mon–Fri (8.30am–3.15pm with a 30-min unpaid daily break).
