A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Key Stage 1 with Down Syndrome from September 2026.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally within a nurturing classroom environment.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEND within a primary school setting
  • Have experience supporting children with Down Syndrome or similar additional needs (highly desirable)
  • Be confident providing 1:1 support and adapting activities to meet individual needs
  • Have a patient, caring, and nurturing approach
  • Support the child's communication, independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team
  • Have a strong understanding of inclusive education and positive behaviour strategies

The Role Will Involve

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a child in KS1 throughout the school day
  • Supporting learning activities and adapting resources where required
  • Encouraging independence and participation within the classroom
  • Supporting social interaction, communication, and emotional development
  • Assisting with the implementation of individual support plans and targets
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and SEND professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the pupil

Contract: Long Term (with potential to continue)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
