A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Key Stage 1 with Down Syndrome from September 2026.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally within a nurturing classroom environment.
The Successful Candidate Will
- Have previous experience supporting children with SEND within a primary school setting
- Have experience supporting children with Down Syndrome or similar additional needs (highly desirable)
- Be confident providing 1:1 support and adapting activities to meet individual needs
- Have a patient, caring, and nurturing approach
- Support the child's communication, independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team
- Have a strong understanding of inclusive education and positive behaviour strategies
The Role Will Involve
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a child in KS1 throughout the school day
- Supporting learning activities and adapting resources where required
- Encouraging independence and participation within the classroom
- Supporting social interaction, communication, and emotional development
- Assisting with the implementation of individual support plans and targets
- Working collaboratively with teachers and SEND professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the pupil

Contract: Long Term (with potential to continue)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Interviews and trial days are taking place throughout the summer.
