About Charterhouse Square School

The SENDCo Role

Purpose

As Senior Leadership Team member (for suitable candidates), you will be a central advocate for inclusive education, shaping Charterhouse Square’s approach to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

  • Strategic Leadership

    • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of SEND provision in alignment with the SEND Code of Practice
    • Ensure consistency, fairness, and legal compliance across SEND policies, assessments, and support plans
  • Curriculum & Teaching

    • Coach staff to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching
    • Collaborate with teachers to adapt lessons for differentiated learning
  • Student Support

    • Coordinate individual Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, psons, and support strategies
    • Host regular review meetings with parents, teachers, and external care providers
  • Community Engagement

    • Act as a trusted advisor for parents on SEND-related concerns
    • Partner with external agencies (e.g., CAMHS, educational psychologists) to streamline support
  • Professional Development & Safeguarding

    • Offer targeted training to staff on SEND-inclusive practices
    • Fulfill your safeguarding responsibilities (e.g., early identification of concerns, referring where necessary)

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a SEND-specific role (e.g., SENDCo, special needs teacher, or similar)
  • NDERCO (National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination) or equivalent recognised qualification (highly desirable)
  • Deep knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and Safeguarding policies
  • Empathy and clarity in supporting both students and their families
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multi-collective support plans, reviews, and documentation
  • Collaborative mindset—ability to work effectively with parents, teaching staff, and external professionals
  • DBS check must pass (required as all Cognita appointments are subject to safeguarding checks)

Desirable Qualities

  • Experience in a co-educational, independent school setting
  • Proven track record of driving significant improvements in SEND provision
