Senior Accountant
Hawthorn Accountancy Solutions is a well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice based in Bridgend, South Wales. With over 23 years of serving the local business community, we provide a personal, professional, and friendly service to a wide range of small businesses and owner-managed companies across the region.
We are a close-knit team of seven and pride ourselves on the quality of our client relationships and the breadth of our work.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Accounts Senior to join our team. This is a varied and rewarding role covering both accounts preparation and tax compliance work, with a high degree of autonomy and direct client contact.
The successful candidate will be an important part of a small, friendly team and will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns and personal self-assessment tax returns
- Liaison with clients to gather information and resolve queries
- Supporting clients who use cloud bookkeeping software including FreeAgent, QuickBooks, Sage, and Clearbooks
- Assisting with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance and submissions
- Reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate records and meeting filing deadlines

Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience in a similar practice-based role — qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience considered
- Strong working knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance for owner-managed businesses.
- Experience with TaxCalc (accounts production and tax modules) is highly desirable
- Familiarity with cloud bookkeeping platforms — FreeAgent, QuickBooks, Sage, or Clearbooks
- Understanding of Making Tax Digital requirements
- Ability to manage your own workload and work to deadlines with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach
- A team player who is comfortable working in a small, busy practice environment
