Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant (Practice) A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Accountant (Practice) to join a well-established organisation operating within the accountancy sector. This is a genuinely varied and client-focused position based in Birmingham, offering the chance to take ownership of a diverse portfolio while working within a supportive and forward-thinking environment. For an experienced professional looking to step into a more autonomous and influential position in the accountancy space, this role provides real scope to make an impact across Birmingham. Overview of the role As a Senior Accountant (Practice), you will play a pivotal role in overseeing a varied client portfolio, ensuring high-quality delivery across accounts, tax and advisory work. Based in Birmingham, this position sits within a collaborative and commercially minded accountancy team where you will act as a key point of contact for clients, providing both technical expertise and trusted advisory support. The role offers strong exposure across the accountancy discipline in Birmingham, alongside the opportunity to support and develop junior colleagues while working closely with senior leadership. What you'll be doing Reviewing statutory financial statements for limited companies and sole traders, ensuring accuracy and compliance Overseeing corporation tax returns and supporting personal tax filings across your client portfolio Acting as primary contact for your allocated clients, managing relationships and expectations Supporting clients with financial interpretation, commercial insights and ad hoc advisory queries Assisting with VAT, payroll and company secretarial matters in collaboration with senior team members Helping clients implement and improve internal systems, processes and accounting software solutions Liaising with clients to ensure deadlines are met and work is delivered to a high standard Supporting and mentoring junior team members, contributing to their development and technical growth

What we're looking for ACA or ACCA qualified with at least 2 years post-qualification experience in practice Proven experience managing a client portfolio within a busy accountancy environment Strong technical knowledge across accounts preparation, tax and financial reporting Confident communicator with the ability to build long-term client relationships Strong systems knowledge including Excel, Word and cloud-based accounting platforms Experience with software such as Xero, Sage or similar systems advantageous Highly organised, detail-focused and able to manage competing priorities under pressure A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
