Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant (FTC, approx. 12 months) to support the General Ledger function within our General Ledger team.

This role requires a candidate who can quickly take ownership of daily accounting operations while also contributing significantly to technical accounting analysis and IFRS-based treatment considerations in a dynamic energy trading environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Financial Controller and existing Senior team members and is expected to operate with a high degree of independence from an early stage.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain and manage General Ledger accounting for Gas & Power business entities in UK and Germany
  • Take ownership of month-end close process and deliver accurate, IFRS-based management reporting packages
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances

Daily Operations & Controls

  • Perform and oversee daily accounting operations including journal postings and reconciliations
  • Ensure integrity of system interfaces (ETRM/SAP) and resolve discrepancies

Technical Accounting (Key Focus)

  • Analyse and determine appropriate accounting treatments under IFRS for new and complex transactions
  • Support energy trading transactions, storage deals, and new business activities
  • Work closely with auditors and external advisors

Audit & Compliance

  • Support statutory audits and provide required documentation
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies

Process Improvement & Projects

  • Identify and implement improvements in accounting processes and controls
  • Support projects such as ETRM implementation and process standardisation

Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in energy or commodity trading
  • Hands-on experience with end-to-end accounting processes, including journal postings, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to independently interpret and apply IFRS, preferably with strong experience in IFRS 9 (financial instruments) and IFRS 16 (leases)

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CPA or equivalent)

Skills

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (IFRS essential)
  • Ability to analyse complex transactions and propose accounting treatments
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, complex formulas)

Experience With SAP And/or ETRM Systems Preferred
