Senior Accountant
Location: UK, Manchester (Hybrid)

Role Overview
Reporting to the Divisional Controller, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead accurate and timely period-end close activities within our Global Finance Services (GFS) shared services organisation. You will act as a subject matter expert across Record-to-Report (RTR) processes including journal preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany accounting and variance analysis while driving accounting quality, financial control and continuous improvement. Working closely with finance stakeholders, you will support governance, audit readiness and the development of junior team members.
Here's what you'll be doing
Financial Accounting & Close
- Perform and oversee complex accounting activities, reconciliations and financial reporting support processes.
- Own key balance sheet accounts and ensure timely reconciliation and resolution of outstanding items.
- Review and sign off bank reconciliations.
- Oversee intercompany accounting and resolution of differences.
- Lead assigned month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities.
- Review accounting transactions and escalate issues where appropriate.
- Prepare and review variance analysis, providing clear commentary on movements in assigned balance sheet accounts and period-end results.
- Prepare and review schedules and supporting information for internal and external reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness ahead of submission deadlines.

Governance & Controls
- Support reporting requirements, accounting policy implementation and process changes.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting quality.
- Support the Divisional Controller in delivering accounting, governance and financial control objectives.
Leadership
- Coach and support Accountants in the execution of accounting activities and capability development; this is not a line management responsibility but carries an expectation of technical leadership and work review.
What you'll bring
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent professional qualification) in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline.
- Qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent preferred.
- 4–8 years' progressive finance experience including financial accounting, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, close activities, audit support and financial controls.
- Experience within a global Shared Services Centre (SSC) or Global Business Services (GBS) environment is essential.

Technical & Operational Expertise
- ERP experience (Oracle Fusion or similar).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong accounting standards, financial reporting and balance sheet management knowledge.
- Knowledge of internal controls and SOX or equivalent governance.
- Experience supporting process improvement or automation.
Problem Solving & Innovation
- Resolve complex reconciliations, intercompany disputes and accounting issues.
- Apply judgement to non-routine transactions.
- Drive process improvements and control enhancements.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Build effective relationships with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Audit and Divisional teams.
- Communicate technical accounting matters clearly.

- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Collaborative, proactive and committed to continuous improvement.
