Role Purpose
The Accounts Senior plays a key role in delivering high-quality accounts preparation and client service across a varied portfolio. The role exists to prepare statutory accounts and associated tax returns to a high technical standard, support junior colleagues, and act as a trusted point of contact for clients. By ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong communication, the Accounts Senior contributes directly to excellent client outcomes and the smooth running of the Accounts team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare year-end accounts files, including statutory accounts, corporation tax returns, and directors’ personal tax returns, to a standard ready for Accounts Director review.
- Meet regularly with key clients to discuss their accounts, financial records, and any issues requiring attention.
- Review work completed by junior team members, providing clear feedback and ensuring all review points are addressed before submission to the Accounts Director.
- Following review, prepare files and supporting reports for the Accounts Director to debrief with the client.
- Ensure all accounts and tax returns are submitted in line with firm compliance procedures and statutory deadlines.
- Mentor colleagues from apprentice level through to Accounts Seniors, supporting their development and assisting the Accounts Director with day-to-day team management.
- Proactively monitor client issues, helping to resolve queries and providing constructive input to colleagues.
- Manage client workflow and diaries to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
- Develop an understanding of AMS Group’s full suite of services and identify opportunities for cross-selling to existing clients.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Experience
- ACCA/ACA part qualified.
- Proven experience working in a professional practice environment.
- Strong background in preparing statutory accounts and tax returns.
- Experience mentoring and supporting trainees

Technical skills
- Strong working knowledge of FRS 102, FRS 102 Section 1A, and FRS 105.
- Experience preparing consolidations.
- Ability to manage client relationships effectively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical matters clearly.
- Ability to take ownership of work, use initiative, and resolve issues independently.
Qualifications

Essential: ACCA/ACA finalist or qualified

Desirable: Experience with cloud accounting platforms and practice management systems
