Senior Accountant
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Accountant to join our long-established family firm of accountants based in York, known for our personal approach, long-standing client relationships, and supportive working culture. This office-based role offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified or qualified-by-experience accountant to manage a varied portfolio of clients while providing high-quality accounting, taxation, and business advisory services.
As the practice continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and people-focused Accountant to join us in our York office. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting clients across a range of industries, ensuring compliance requirements are met while helping businesses achieve their financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Prepare management accounts and financial reports for clients.
- Complete corporation tax returns and support personal tax compliance work where required.
- Managing, supporting, and developing team members, including reviewing work and helping them progress.
- Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as their primary point of contact.
- Provide practical accounting and business advice to clients.
- Liaise directly with HMRC and other external stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Support and mentor junior members of the team.
- Ensure all assignments are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Assist with client onboarding and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Identify opportunities to improve client processes and add value through advisory services.
This is a hands-on role where you will build genuine relationships with clients and help shape the future of the team.

Requirements
Essential
- ACA or ACCA qualified, or qualified by experience.
- Ideally 5 years' experience within an accountancy practice.
- Strong experience preparing accounts for a variety of business entities.
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage and Xero.
- Excellent technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a busy practice environment.
- A proactive and professional approach to client service.
Desirable
- Experience using IRIS practice software.
- Experienced in supervising, mentoring, or developing staff.
- Experience working with a diverse client portfolio across multiple sectors.
