Job Purpose

Canada Life UK’s Bulk Annuity Operations team is growing, and we are seeking a qualified actuary to oversee a pivotal role.

This opportunity allows you to:

  • Lead a team of actuaries and analysts to deliver high-quality bulk annuity quotations.
  • Automate calculations to enable members to self-serve as they near retirement.
  • Review legal agreements and actively contribute to negotiations with external partners.
  • Support business development and client relationship management through stakeholder meetings.
  • Manage compliance and risk governance while staying informed about industry developments.
  • Provide expert support to drive change and improvements aligned with business needs.

You’ll need strong defined benefit (DB) pension knowledge, market awareness of bulk annuities, and significant stakeholder management experience. You must be able to communicate complex technical matters—both to senior management and non-actuaries—while developing and maintaining an actuarial control framework.

Key Accountabilities

  • Managing a team of actuaries and analysts to produce and review quotations.
  • Automating calculations for self-service retirement solutions.
  • Reviewing legal agreements and actively participating in contract negotiations with external stakeholders.
  • Supporting business development and client meetings, where appropriate.
  • Ensuring compliance and risk governance while managing key stakeholders.
  • Keeping up with industry trends to align business strategies accordingly.
  • Providing guidance to colleagues and facilitating change to meet organisational needs.

Desired Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of UK Defined Benefit pensions.
  • Familiarity with bulk annuity markets and products.
  • Experience in stakeholder management.
  • Exceptional communication skills, especially explaining technical issues to senior colleagues, clients, and non-actuaries.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an actuarial control framework.
  • Qualified actuary (essential).
