About the Role
The Senior Advisor is the apex technical lead within Cyderes’ CDOA (Cyber Detection Operations) discipline. In this critical role, you’ll:
- Own and deliver the most high-value, complex client relationships, engaging at the Director, Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), and CISO levels.
- Act as the technology and security authority for Cyderes, shaping tactical and strategic detection and incident response initiatives.
- Exercize significant operational autonomy while leveraging your ability to elevate the technical expertise of your team.
- Operate at the intersection of detection innovation, threat intelligence, and client engagement while aligning to Cyderes’ Expedition Angle—from pre-sign to post-postmortem.
Core Responsibilities
Detection & Threat Innovation
- Define detection engineering excellence: Develop novel detection content mapping to emerging threat actor TTPs (Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures).
- Drive visibility strategy: Lead large-scale enterprise visibility assessments and coverage gap analyses for enterprise clients.
- Influence security architecture: Advise clients on long-term security investments, framing strategic decisions via a detection-first lens.
Delivery & Execution
- Final technical review: Provide last-mile validation of detection logic before deployment to enterprise clients.
- Manage senior client relationships: Own day-to-day technical engagements with Director, Technical SME, and CISO stakeholders across client engagements.
- Communicate strategic posture: Deliver executive briefings on clients’ detection, risk maturing, and operational posture.

Incident Response & Remediation
- Emergency escalation leader: Lead or co-lead major security incident response efforts, spanning responsibilities across assigned and escalated account engagements.
- Technical response elite: Serve as the pedagogical expert on detection craft during high-severity DFIR (Digital Forensics & Incident Response) investigations.
- Steer post-incident changes: Drive post-breach review processes, translating lessons learned into durable, repeatable detection improvements.
- Expert collaborator: Function as a key technical stakeholder for SOC leadership and DFIR operations during complex escalations.
Culture & Leadership
- Mentor future leaders: Guide and coach Operations Advisors and Associate Advisors in refinement of call detection (threat hunting), detection development, OODA loop execution, and client advocacy proficiency development.
- Primer of effective teams: Foster improvement of technical standards, accountability, metrics, and interactions in a high-performing CDOA community.
Key Requirements
Profiling Essentials
- 7+ years of expertise in:
- Detection engineering | Threat hunting | Threat intelligence operationalization | Managed security operations (e.g., MSSP/SOC).
- Elite level hands-on proficiency with enterprise SIEM environments (Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Chronicle, or equivalent).
- Architecture portfolio: Demonstrated ability to architect, deploy, and refine enterprise command centers and detection frameworks.
- Threat-focused acumen: Advanced knowledge of adversary TTPs and precedent-setting defensive strategies.
- Executive rapport: Proven track record establishing engaged, persuasive relationships with Director, Technical SME and CISO executives.
Impact & Gifts
- Incident response experience: Proven solo or lead leadership experience in mitigating significant breaches.
- Skill development: Track record of mentoring junior associate/operators and driving up entrenched **technical standards`.
- Technological & community prominence: Prior contributions to standards-setting research, open-source tools, or public-focused thought leadership (e.g., security content development, conference talks).
- Standard certifications: GDAT (Ghost Detection Architecture), GREM (GRM Engineering) GCFE (GCFA ex-equivalent), GREM, or equivalent senior credentials.
