Senior AI Software Engineer – Agentic Development & Developer Productivity
Location: London, UK (2 Days Onsite Per Week)
Contract Type: Long-Term Contract
Engagement: Inside IR35
Start Date: ASAP
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior AI Software Engineer to drive the adoption of next-generation AI-powered software development practices across enterprise engineering teams.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, developer experience, automation, and agentic AI. You will be responsible for designing, building, and optimising intelligent development workflows that enhance software delivery, improve engineering productivity, and reduce friction across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Working closely with engineering, platform, and architecture teams, you will help embed AI-native capabilities into modern development processes through advanced coding agents, workflow orchestration, automation frameworks, prompt libraries, and reusable engineering assets.
Key Responsibilities
Agentic AI Engineering
- Design, develop, and maintain sophisticated AI coding agents and development assistants.
- Build and optimise multi-step agentic workflows supporting development, testing, code review, documentation, and deployment activities.
- Develop reusable Skills, prompts, workflows, and automation frameworks for engineering teams.
- Continuously improve agent performance through evaluation, tuning, and optimisation.

AI Governance & Quality
- Define standards for AI-assisted software development across engineering organisations.
- Build evaluation frameworks to measure quality, reliability, and effectiveness of AI-generated outputs.
- Establish prompt governance, instruction libraries, and reusable engineering patterns.
- Ensure all AI-enabled solutions align with security, compliance, and engineering best practices.
SDLC Automation
- Integrate AI-driven solutions into modern software delivery pipelines.
- Build intelligent development workflows leveraging GitHub and CI/CD tooling.
- Implement end-to-end automation across development, testing, deployment, and operational processes.
- Integrate AI workflows with MCP servers and supporting development infrastructure.
Platform & Developer Experience
- Improve engineering productivity through AI-enabled developer tooling.
- Create scalable frameworks that enable engineering teams to adopt AI-assisted development practices.
- Develop reusable templates, standards, and automation capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple teams.
- Drive adoption of emerging AI engineering technologies and methodologies.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with software engineers, architects, platform teams, and engineering leadership.
- Provide technical leadership on agentic development practices and AI-enabled engineering workflows.
- Influence the future direction of AI-powered software delivery within the organisation.

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial software engineering background within large-scale enterprise environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript.
- Demonstrable experience building and deploying AI-assisted software development solutions.
- Strong understanding of agentic AI systems and multi-agent workflow architectures.
- Hands-on experience with:
- GitHub ecosystem
- GitHub Actions
- CI/CD pipelines
- Development workflow automation
- Experience working with AI coding platforms such as:
- GitHub Copilot
- Claude Code
- OpenAI Codex
- Similar AI-assisted development tools
- Strong Prompt Engineering and PromptOps experience.
- Experience creating reusable AI workflows, Skills libraries, and developer productivity tooling.
- Excellent understanding of software engineering best practices and SDLC methodologies.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Exposure to agent orchestration frameworks and multi-agent systems.
- Knowledge of LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, OpenAI Agents SDK, or similar technologies.
- Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Development experience with:
- Golang
- Rust
- Java
- Background in platform engineering, developer experience, or engineering enablement functions.
