Senior Analyst – Climate Risk Team

Financial Risk Management Division (FRMD) • Bank of England

About the Role

Would you like to work on the forefront of incorporating climate risks into central banks’ market operations? Are you passionate about mitigating financial risks associated with climate change and supporting the Bank of England’s balance sheet resilience? Join a diverse, high-impact team of risk and climate experts dedicated to shaping internationally leading practices in central banking.

The Climate Risk Team sits within the Markets Directorate, focusing on quantitative risk analysis to address climate-related financial risks across the Bank’s operations. The team delivers critical work to:

  • Assess and quantify material climate-related financial risks across sovereign and institutional counterparties.
  • Develop mitigation strategies, including adjustments to collateral haircuts and credit risk assessments to offset climate exposure.
  • Draft the Bank’s annual Climate Disclosure on financial operations.
  • Collaborate with global central banks (via the Network for Greening the Financial System) to expand best practices in climate risk.

This leadership opportunity, based in Leeds, provides purpose-driven work at the intersection of finance, policy, and climate science—contributing directly to the Bank’s mission of monetary and financial stability.

Your Responsibilities

You will contribute to the team’s core priorities, including but not limited to:

  • Climate Risk Quantification

    • Model and measure the financial impact of climate risks on sovereign and financial institution counterparties.
    • Incorporate forward-looking scenarios (e.g., transition risks, physical risks) into quantitative frameworks.
    • Guide Bank policies by identifying systemic vulnerabilities in market operations.
  • Risk Mitigation & Strategy

    • Propose adaptive solutions (e.g., collateral valuation, stress testing frameworks) to offset climate-related financial risks.
    • Support counterparty credit risk assessments with climate-adjusted metrics.
    • Collaborate with internal/economic teams to align risk models with macroeconomic expectations.
  • Reporting & Disclosure

    • Lead contributions to the Bank’s annual Climate Financial Risks disclosure.
    • Present findings to senior executives, policymakers, and international stakeholders.
  • Networking & Policy Influence

    • Work with peers in the Network for Greening the Financial System to align the UK with global standards.
    • Advise on communications to disseminate insights (e.g., research, policy briefs) to decision-makers.

About the Team

  • Cross-disciplinary expertise: Climate scientists, econometricians, credit analysts, and policy specialists.
  • Adaptive and collaborative: Work involves stakeholder engagement across FRMD, bank divisions, and international forums.
  • Part-of-a-mission: Save financial stability from climate change.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
