Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Analyst Programmer to join our IT Department. As a key member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering technology solutions that support the continued growth, efficiency, and resilience of the business.
This role will lead the development and enhancement of business-critical systems, ensuring they continue to deliver long-term value while supporting an expanding retail operation. You'll provide technical leadership across a range of development projects, working closely with stakeholders to design scalable, maintainable, and commercially aligned solutions that improve operational performance and reduce business risk.
Managing and developing a team of Analyst Programmers and Junior Analyst Programmers, you'll foster a collaborative and high-performing environment, championing best practice throughout the software development lifecycle. You'll also play a key role in shaping solution architecture, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring our technology platforms are well positioned to support future business growth.

Job Overview
- Leading the design, development, and delivery of major IT development projects, ensuring technical solutions align with business objectives, project timescales, and operational requirements.
- Working collaboratively with business stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document requirements, producing clear functional and technical specifications.
- Designing and developing high-quality software solutions in line with agreed programming standards and industry best practice.
- Leading solution and application architecture activities to deliver scalable, integrated solutions that minimise technical debt and support future growth.
- Developing and maintaining integrations between core and peripheral systems using web services, socket connections, and other appropriate technologies.
- Providing third-line technical support, investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving complex software and system issues.
- Managing, coaching, and developing Analyst Programmers and Junior Analyst Programmers, supporting both technical capability and career development.
- Coordinating development activities across internal teams and third-party suppliers, ensuring successful delivery of business-critical solutions.
- Supporting change management processes through code reviews, testing, quality assurance, and controlled software releases.
- Researching emerging technologies and recommending innovative, cost-effective solutions that enhance business capability and operational efficiency.
- Acting as the technical interface between third-party suppliers and commercial teams, ensuring external partners remain aligned with business priorities and strategic objectives.

Minimum Criteria To Apply
- Significant experience across the full software development lifecycle, with extensive expertise in IBM i (AS/400) platform, with strong proficiency in RPG programming
- Proven experience leading software development projects and coordinating technical delivery within a complex business environment.
- Experience managing, mentoring, and developing technical teams, with the ability to inspire high performance and continuous improvement.
- Strong ERP development and software integration experience, including developing interfaces between core and peripheral systems.
- Experience working within retail and EPOS environments, with knowledge of warehouse and distribution centre software systems.
- Extensive experience investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving complex software and application issues.
- Strong solution design and application architecture experience, with the ability to develop scalable, maintainable, and commercially focused systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timescales.
- A proactive, analytical, and solution-focused approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and adopting new technologies.
- A customer-focused and collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and third-party partners.
