Your Impact
As a **Water Quality Analyst/Modeller, you’ll make a tangible difference in key areas of water quality reform:
- Reforming bathing water standards
- Conducting storm overflow impact assessments
- Evaluating the impact of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on new water resources
- Exploring environmental enhancement opportunities
You’ll work on high-profile, high-value projects contributing to historic demands in water quality improvements—exceeding regulatory and legislative expectations.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a pivotal role in the growth of our Water Quality team by:
- Developing advanced process-based modelling for water quality and integrated catchment management
- Delivering catchment-scale river water quality assessments, supporting frameworks like the Water Framework Directive
- Assessing RQP (River Quality Probing) and MPER (Major Plant Environmental Report) compliance, alongside statistical discharge impact evaluations
- Providing technical leadership for water quality studies, including:
- Environmental impact assessments
- Modelling
- Urban pollution modelling
- Water quality investigations
- Supporting project teams – planning, contracting, delivery
- Promoting a culture of mentorship through professional development and proactive support for colleagues
- Acting as the primary technical and commercial stakeholder interface within our projects
- Ensuring accuracy by reviewing calculations and technical deliverables
- Continuing to develop expertise in UK/EU water quality modelling standards and analytics
- Writing technical reports

Requirements
We’re looking for a Water Quality Modeller/Ingenior well-versed in software including:
MIKE EcoLab InfoWorks ICM SAGIS/SIMCAT
With expertise in solving water quality challenges, particularly in areas like:
- Emerging chemicals
- Nature-based solutions
- Natural flood risk management
Key Skills & Experience
- Charter CIWÉM (Chartered Institute of Water & Environmental Management) membership or a commitment to working towards this field-focused qualification
- Experience collaborating with water utilities and regulatory bodies
- Strength in urban pollution and nutrient modelling
- Proficiency in:
- R/RStudio and Python (including AI and machine learning)
- Environmental permitting processes
- Strategic and tactical water quality decision-making
- In-depth understanding of recent policy and legislative changes in water quality
- Successful track record of stakeholder management, including engagement with:
- DEFRA, Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales
- Planning Authorities, Local Flood Authorities, Environmental NGOs
- Experience developing and implementing water quality tools, such as:
- UPM water quality modelling tools
- Analytical modelling & visualisation tools
