Senior Android Engineer
Senior Android Engineer – New Financial Products Team
We’re on a mission to make migration easy—and to build one of the world’s largest financial services providers.
About Marshmallow
Marshmallow started in 2017, growing from 3 team members to 700+ and becoming a unicorn business through £140M+ in sequential funding rounds. We’ve reached profitability, insured millions of drivers, and revolutionised car finance—and now we’re expanding into a new era:
By 2026, we will transform into a high-engagement financial companion for migrants in the UK, unlocking multi-product growth, deeper customer understanding, and new revenue streams. This role sits at the heart of that mission.
We thrive on ambition, autonomy, and collective success over self-interest. Our environment rewards curiosity, tenacity, and a proactive mindset: if your ideas improve things, we’ll act on them. Team members balance ownership with continuous growth.
Maret’s hybrid work model allows you to spend 3 days per week in our London office.
Engineering at Marshmallow
We’re building the future of financial migration. Our engineers own their work from concept to delivery, spanning:
- Full stack (including iOS, Android)
- Frontend (Jetpack Compose would introduce you to a new world of performance and simplicity!)
- Backend experience (optional but encouraged to grow)
- Data and product intelligence
Our cross-functional product teams, from renewals to claims, define their own roadmaps, push innovation, and collaborate daily with designers, researchers, and engineers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Required Experiences & Mindset
- Sound commercial expertise. You demonstrate the ability to make bold trade-offs—risks only happen because you’re smart enough to mitigate them.
- Your problems don’t sit on you. You identify issues early before they derail projects, solve them fast, and bring others with you.
- Embrace change as a driver. You actively research new practices, integrating them to raise pace and quality.
- Consider introducing AI-assisted development frameworks (Claude Code is on your stack!).
- Relationships with purpose. You collaborate across product, design, backend with a shared’sense of ownership’—not just responsibility—that ships value.
- Technical + impact alignment. Ask the right questions during product conversations, using your perspective to challenge assumptions—and clarify opportunities.
Technical Requirements
Our tech stack speaks to your skills:
- Language & Architecture: Kotlin (deep understanding required) + Jetpack Compose + dynamic results (is this already your daily頃?)
- Concurrency & Testing:
- Experience with Kotlin Coroutines to write idiomatic, non-blocking logic.
- Web of unit tests (business logic), snapshots for the UI, and automated UI tests.
- Tooling: Bitrise for CI/CD, with push driven deployment pipelines that mitigate risk.
- Glue: Modern CI/CD, local Gradle feature modules, and collaborative GitHub workflows; this isn’t just checklists—involve detectives to enforce lint & detekt.
Demonstrate a track record of shipping high expectations to App Store and Google Play.
Bonus marks if you have:
- We ship Android with across-function market reach in mind—Rules of Thirds would be useful (except you’re building the new ones!)
- You’ve worked on large-scale financial apps with strict regulatory constraints (Car Financing or FCA-compliant products)
- Mentoring others is downright joyful for you.
