About The Role
Leonardo UK is seeking a highly skilled Senior Application Engineer to join the Cyber & Security Solutions Division. This pivotal role involves supporting, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise-grade applications that underpin critical defence, government, and public sector services. The successful candidate will play a key part in delivering, configuring, and improving platform and systems engineering solutions that are vital to national security and operational resilience. The role offers a hybrid working model, combining remote work with on-site collaboration at our Bristol office, facilitating close engagement with cross-functional teams and clients. As a Senior Application Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of mission-critical applications, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring junior engineers to foster a high-performance engineering environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful projects that directly support national security and public safety objectives.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in supporting and configuring enterprise or mission-critical applications, ideally within telecoms, control rooms, or public safety communication environments. Relevant experience includes supporting operational telecom systems, public safety applications, or control room tools. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of application lifecycle management, integration patterns, and secure-by-design principles. Industry-recognized certifications such as ITIL, AWS, or Azure are advantageous. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with a proactive mindset and a passion for continuous learning. Familiarity with security standards, identity management systems, and ITSM tools like Jira Service Management will enhance your suitability for this role.
Responsibilities
- Support, configure, and enhance the Leonardo MCX suite of applications, ensuring their reliable operation within mission-critical communication environments.
- Deliver engineering tasks within defined work packages, aligning with user needs, operational communication requirements, security standards, and service-level objectives.
- Contribute to application architecture, configuration, integration, and lifecycle activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, service management, and product teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Mentor junior engineers and specialists, supporting their professional development and promoting best practices across teams.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, documentation, and knowledge sharing to enhance operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with engineering governance, ITSM processes, and cybersecurity policies to maintain the integrity and security of applications.
